1. The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, on Saturday, said the country recorded 176 new cases of coronavirus
This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria to 5621.
2. President Muhammadu Buhari has received the coronavirus cure developed in Madagascar.
The Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmed, who made this known on Saturday, said the President reiterated that his government will listen to science before allowing any medicine to be given to Nigerians.
3. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says the Federal Government has set up palliatives to assist Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to survive the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, the palliatives reflected the President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s determination to support MSMEs and the priority the Federal Government placed on small businesses.
4. Apex youth organisation in the Niger Delta, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), has told Biafra and Oduduwa secessionists to leave the Ijaw nation out of what they call ‘their utopian republics’.
Chairman, IYC Transition Implementation Committee, Kennedy Olorogun, said the Ijaw nation is currently confronted with the renewed quest for nationalism within the Nigerian geopolitical arrangement.
5. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has given the President Muhammadu Buhari government “a 48-hour ultimatum to declare the whereabouts of the medical team from China who were brought in purportedly to assist the nation in its fight against the spread of the COVID-19.”
The opposition party was reacting to a declaration by the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, that he cannot account for the whereabouts of the Chinese team.
6. Niger State has recorded its first coronavirus death after the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed eight new cases in the State.
Making this known in Minna, the State Commissioner for Health and Hospital Services, Dr. Muhammad Makusidi, stated that out of the 22 results received from the NCDC, eight persons have tested positive to the disease while 14 returned negative.
7. The Lagos State Government has announced that it recorded three COVID-19 related deaths.
The State Ministry of Health on Saturday, confirmed that three COVID-19 deaths were recorded as of 15th of May, thus bringing the number of COVID-19 related deaths in Lagos to 36.
8. Electrical and electronic experts have called on the Nigerian government to adopt the 5G mobile technology now so that the country would not be left out of the ongoing global technological industrialisation and development evolution.
Speaking on controversies around 5G and Radiation from antennas, they said that 5G mobile technology was faster and safer and used less oxidation and energy, making it safer than its predecessors.
9. A total of nine armed bandits have been killed after a gun battle with the Police and local vigilante in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger state.
It was gathered that the fight took place at Karaya Mahanga and Bakachi villages by 2:30am on Saturday and lasted about four hours.
10. The Bauchi State Government has said that 41 persons died of Lassa fever from January to date in the state.
Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, Executive Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BASPHCDA), disclosed this in Bauchi on Saturday, stating that Lassa fever is deadlier than Coronavirus.
