Coronavirus: Primary schools, daycare centres remain closed – Buhari govt The Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 on Monday said Daycare centres and primary schools remain closed. This was disclosed by the National Coordinator of the Committee, Sani Aliyu during its daily briefing in Abuja. “All daycares and primary schools to remain closed till further evaluation,” Aliyu said. Recall that the Chairman of the Committee and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha had earlier announced the “safe” reopening of schools. Mustapha had said only  graduating classes would be allowed to resume. He had explained that the measure was to allow the graduating classes prepare for their final examinations. President Muhammadu Buhari had a few months ago ordered the closure of schools due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The decision was a measure to curb the spread of the virus in Nigeria.

Nigeria Records 675 New Cases Of COVID-19, Total Infections Near 21,000   Nigeria on Monday reported 675 new cases of the novel coronavirus, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. The new cases bring the country’s total reported cases, since February, to 20,919. According to the health agency, 7,109 patients have been successfully treated and discharged while 525 have died as a result of the virus. In Monday’s report, Lagos state recorded the highest number of new cases with 288 and Oyo was second with 76. 13 Imo lawmakers test positive for COVID-19 Thirteen members of the Imo State House of Assembly have tested positive for coronavirus. The lawmakers have immediately gone into isolation at different centres in the state. The Chairman of the State Task Force Team on COVID-19, Prof. Maurice Iwu announced this on Tuesday during a press briefing. DAILY POST recalls that members of the Assembly were instructed days ago  to undergo COVID-19 test  after a member tested positive for coronavirus. Governor Hope Uzodinma had directed members to go for compulsory test at Evaright Diagnostic Centre Owerri to ascertain their COVID-19 status to avoid its likely spread.

Two dead, 11 injured in Lagos-Ibadan highway crash Two men have died in fatal multiple road accidents that occurred at the Isara bridge axis along the diversion area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State. 11 other men sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident that involved 23 persons. The accident, which occurred around 9:50am on Monday, involved four vehicles: a Toyota bus marked, BEN 133 YQ and three Man-diesel trucks with registration numbers, KFU 101 LG, QAP 584 XA and LSD 759 XR. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps told DAILY POST that the accident was caused by wrongful overtaking and reckless driving on the part of the Man-diesel marked LSD 759 XR, moving from Lagos to Ibadan. The parley was held in the President’s office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. In attendance were Chairman, Progressive Governors Forum and the Kebbi Governor, Atiku Bagudu; Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, as well as the Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru. Bagudu told State House correspondents that the meeting was to give the President the position of the APC governors.
