BREAKING: Nigeria govt announces new date for WAEC, school resumption The Federal Ministry of Education on Monday announced that secondary schools for exit classes will resume on August 4th. This was announced in a statement signed by its Director Press and Public Relation, Ben Ben Goong. Goong said the decision was reached at a virtual consultative meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education of the 36 states, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, the proprietors of private schools and the Chief Executive of examination bodies. The Ministry further stated that students will have two weeks to prepare for the West African Examination, WAEC, which will start on 17th of August. “Secondary schools in the country are to reopen as from the 4th of August, 2020 for exit classes only. ”It was agreed that the exit classes should resume immediately after the Sallah break, from 4th of August, 2020 to enable them prepare for WAEC examinations which will commence on A

Buhari arrives Mali [PHOTO] President Muhammadu Buhari is now in Mali for a peace meeting in the troubled African country. Buhari arrived in Bamako on Thursday, the capital of Mali for a peace talk. His personal photographer, Bayo Omoboriowo, disclosed this via his Twitter handle. The purpose of the meeting is to engage in further consultations towards finding a political solution to the crisis in Mali. Sharing a photograph of Buhari wearing face mask, Omoboriowo wrote: “@MBuhari arrives Bamako, Mali for the peace mission by the ECOWAS Head of states.” Buhari and some leaders of the Economic Community of West African State, ECOWAS, led by its Chairman, President Issoufou Mahamadou of Niger Republic, had agreed to meet in Mali  to engage in further consultations towards finding a political solution to the crisis in the country.

COVID-19: Oyo state releases calendar for schools resumption Oyo State Government on Tuesday released the calendar for the resumption of schools in the state. Schools across the country were shut due to the Coronavirus pandemic. But, the state government on Tuesday said it has released a calendar to guide resumption and examination for terminal classes in the state. Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye who spoke after the state executive council meeting on Tuesday said the state executive council approved the academic calendar to guide resumption of classes. Olaleye enjoined all stakeholders and members of the public to take note of the details of the academic calendar. Buhari reacts as Minister of foreign affairs, Onyeama test positive to COVID-19 President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the news of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema’s positive coronavirus result. Onyema, earlier in a post on his Twitter page announced  that he tested positive for Coronavirus  after a fourth test. He went for the test after he experienced a throat irritation. Buhari in a post on his official Twitter page wished Onyeama a speedy recovery. The President expressed gratitude to Onyeama for his support in fighting to curb the spread of Coronavirus. The tweet read: “I wish @GeoffreyOnyeama speedy recovery from Covid-19. Nigeria is eternally grateful for his diligence in attracting international support to defeat the pandemic and boost the economy. “He has been a tireless worker and a strong pillar of our administration.” As of Sunday, Nigeria has recorded over 36,000 cases and 778 deaths.

Levante Club Director, Ramón Vilar is dead Levante Football Club Director, Ramón Vilar Zanón, is dead. Vilar died at the age of 64. Levante made the announcement in a statement via the club’s official website on Sunday. The statement read: “Levante U.D. and the Cent Anys Foundation want to express their condolences for the death of the director Mr Ramón Vilar Zanón. “Ramón Vilar held the position of director of Levante U.D. since 2009 and was a patron of the Cent Anys Foundation from 2009 to 2017. “All the members of the club and the Foundation join the pain of family and friends in these difficult moments after their sudden and irreparable loss. “Levante would like to thank him for his dedication and work in the club for his whole life and for his eternal Levante. NDDC: ‘Ask her four husbands about her character’ – Akpabio reacts to Joy Nunieh’s corruption allegations The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has reacted to the allegations made against him by Joy Nunieh, a former Acting Managing Director of Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC. Nunieh recently made some damning revelations about the Minister and former Governor of Akwa Ibom State on his handling of the Ministry. Addressing the press after she appeared before Senate adhoc Committee investigating NDDC, Mrs Nunieh  recounted her ordeal  at the hands of the Minister before she was removed as the NDDC MD. BREAKING: Super Eagles striker tests positive for COVID-19   Ad Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, has tested positive for COVID-19. However, the results of his fellow Nigerians: Stephen Odey and Cyril Dessers at Belgian club, Genk, came out negative. The 26-year-old becomes the first Eagles star to test positive for coronavirus that led to the cancellation of suspensions of sports worldwide. “In the run-up to the first exhibition game of the season, the entire Genk group was tested yesterday (Tuesday). “Everyone tested negative except Onuachu,” a report on Belgian website hln.be stated. Onuachu returned to his club on June 28, after he was stranded for a week in Lagos due to travel restrictions caused by the pandemic.

Nigerian govt postpones school resumption, 2020 WASSCE indefinitely The Federal Government has canceled the resumption of schools for graduating classes. This was announced by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, while speaking to State House Correspondents the weekly Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday. Adamu also disclosed that 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, has been postponed indefinitely. This, he said was due to the spread of the coronavirus disease in the country. Adamu also explained that Nigerian schools will not reopen any time soon until it is safe to do so. According to the minister, he would prefer Nigerian students lose an academic year than to expose them to dangers. Nigeria COVID-19 cases near 30,000

  The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, has announced that the country recorded 503 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, raising the total infections from the virus to almost 30,000. The NCDC made this known on its official twitter handle @NCDCgov on Tuesday. The agency also announced that no new state had reported a case in the last 24 hours.
