UPDATED: Nigeria’s coronavirus cases reach 1,728, fatalities 51   The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says 196 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,728. NCDC also announced that seven more fatalities were recorded, bringing the total number of deaths to 51. The NCDC, in a tweet at about 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday, said the 196 new cases reported were; 87-Lagos, 24-Kano, 18-Gombe, 17-Kaduna, 16-FCT, 10-Katsina, 8-Sokoto, 7-Edo, 6-Borno, 1-Yobe, 1-Ebonyi, 1-Adamawa. The virus has spread to 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Yobe, according to NCDC report, is the most recent state to record COVID-19 case in the country. According to the agency, Nigeria now has 1,370 active cases recorded as of 11:55 p.m. on April 29, while 307 infected persons have been treated and discharged, with 51 deaths recorded.

Lagos govt confirms 87 new COVID-19 cases Lagos State Government has confirmed it recorded 87 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. The State Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi, made this known via his Twitter page. He also confirmed that 49 patients have been discharged. Abayomi wrote, “COVID-19 Lagos Update as at 29th April, 2020 “87 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Lagos on April 29, 2020. Total number of confirmed cases in Lagos is now 947. “The good news is that 49 additional COVID-19 survivors have been discharged following their full recovery.” Meanwhile, Nigeria’s  confirmed cases now stand at 1728.

The state governor, Dapo Abiodun, who spoke at a press briefing at the weekend on the activities of the state government to curb further spread of Coronavirus pandemic in the state, said the state had now completed the ICU floor of the intended 250-bed hospital in Abeokuta, which has 18 available beds of which eight are high dependency and 10 ICU. “In addition, we are finalising the renovation of the 75-bed Infectious Disease Hospital at Iberekodo, Abeokuta,” he said.
